We added the audio of John Cleese as Screwtape, which was very entertaining (audio is not necessary). Really a fantastic study of a funny, difficult and often disturbing book, which we only fully understood via the study. I had read the book before and never, ever got out of it what I did through this study. The group concurred. The questions and scripture references are dead on. As the group leader, it was very easy to use the guide and conduct the class. We just finished the study yesterday and I'm still pondering it, and probably will for a good long time. Thank you Alan for acting as such an excellent guide of C. S. Lewis, and helping to make such a difficult author completely accessible! ### ⭐ Not that helpful *by S***R on Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2017* We've been using this material for several weeks in our small group, and I'm surprised at how elementary it is and frustrated by the questions which seem to repeat themselves in each lesson. I understand he taught this material and developed it during his teaching, so it is credible, but it just isn't well written. I think we get more of just reading the book and discussing ti's concepts. One thing the guide does is offer back-up scripture and that's appreciated. The Leader Guide and materials have been very helpful to my ability to lead the discussion. The chapter summaries are helpful to keeping things in context. I especially appreciate the scripture references to help balance our opinions against the lies and strategies from Screwtape (and friends).We opted to read a chapter a week so that we could maximize our conversation and education. We are striving to pull as much as possible from each chapter, not just rush thru the book. So, I think we are only about on chapter 7 this week! haha! The hardest part (for some of my group) is that we have to read the chapter two or three times to truly understand what's going on. Sometimes, the language/vocabulary in Screwtape Letters is difficult to wrap your head around.But we are encouraging one another and enjoying the lively discussion that the book generates.
