GERBERGEAR Folding Knife,Serrated,Tanto,3-1/2 in, Black G-10 (30-000840)

I don’t expect to spend what I did on this knife to have to break it in! Expectation was to receive an item that was duty ready out of the box. I already carry a folding blade and thought and assisted opening would be a great addition for duty.This knife is not ready to use out of the box as assisted opening! I actually have to use both hands to get it to work. I do not have time for two months of breaking. I will be returning this knife

I was discouraged when I first got this at how hard it was to open. I was tearing skin off my thumb from opening repeatedly. I have owned Gerber knives before and learned from my past mistakes. DO NOT OIL THE KNIFE!!! DO NOT LOOSEN THE SCREW!!! Just keep opening and closing it over and over and over and.... you get it. Just break it in.The finish will eventually wear down, the metal will eventually wear until it is shining in the area of contact. It took a couple weeks but this thing opens like butter! Outstanding knife. Tanto blade is so versatile. Non scratch clip is a plus. This is now my ever day carry! Worth every penny!

I received this after waiting for it for couple weeks. The blade looked great, but the spring action didn't work properly. It was so hard to use the thumb stud to push the blade open. It didn't feel like it was spring assisted at all. I watched all different videos on youtube about how to use the knife and reviews as well. I used WD-40 thinking the lube might help ease the pain of opening the blade, but it did little to no help with that. I tried so often, I ended up injuring my thumb trying to get the spring action to work. I returned it the next day and now waiting for a replacement. They offered a tracking number, and it was returned "Delivered On:Wednesday, 03/02/2016 at 10:00 A.M.". it's 3/3/16 today and the date expected for them to ship a new replacement is on 4/4/16 (that's a whole month) which is completely ridiculous. I hope no one else goes thru the same trouble as I did.

Love my new Gerber Propel AO!!! I just got it and I was amazed. The G-10 grip handel is great in my hands, but I don't think my pants will think the same since the grip is like sandpaper. The blade is nice and sharp. Overall the knife is nice and sturdy in the hands.

I like the knife but it's too big for my pocket. Also the handle makes it difficult to take it out of your pant pocket

The auto/assist action is terrible out of the box. I’m sure it would probably work better if I spent a ton of time opening and closing the knife or if I took it apart and polished the components like they should have done at the factory. This knife is poorly made. The materials are all very rough and would also need to be worked over with some very fine sandpaper to keep it from wearing through clothing. If this thing sold for half the price I wouldn’t complain, but at the price it sells for I shouldn’t have to spend an hour in the shop getting it usable. Additionally, the steel isn’t great. The knife is clunky and heavy, not an everyday carry at all. This is a $40 knife at best.

After reading so many negative reviews, I must say, I'm extremely pleased with this knife! This knife is my first edc ever. The dimensions are slim, and the adjustable pocket clip lends itself to a variety of carry options. I admit that a fair portion of the knife protrudes from the pocket when the clip is being used. However, when you need to remove the knife quickly, you'll be thankful that you have something substantial to grab onto. Gerber has either improved the the locking device, or the partial open when locked problem simply doesn't exist with my knife. The assisted open action is fidgety, and stiff right out of the box. I've now opened and closed this knife hundreds of times, as I'm sure you will, in the first several weeks of ownership. Now the action is fast, easy, smooth, and extremely reliable. Gerber makes a high quality product, and with that being said, you will pay a higher price. This knife is made from 420HC steel, and crafted in the USA. Simply put, this knife is well worth the money!

I usually don't use folding knives because they aren't as sturdy, but this is by far the best damn folding knife I have ever used.
