A good look at eirly manuscripts but needs alot of work.
What I find quite pathetic is that even though this book is a good start and topic of the quran having some discrepancies from older text which I agree with and I have much more knowledge on this topic than most. I find that the people who write these topics are like monkeys through their own excrement at the mirror thinking they are above the image reflected back on them. What i mean is Christians to show the quran has problems and then still proclaim that a man many many centuries earlier was God or the son of God or was even a real man in history is quite idiotic. The truth is all religions are man made. And insulting one when still following another is not logical. Now if you look at this book from purely historical point of view it is correct that the quran has been edited mistranslated. But this proves that all the books have had the same process including the bible and others. You don't get a Nobel prise for finding what is already well known.

quran is not a manuscript
quran is not a manuscript it is a oral recitation . anyone can make mistakes in writing. the oral recitation is what is preserved without change. thats why the quran today is the same as yesterday.

Detailed scholarly book that may annoy people of a certain faith
I think this is definitely going to divide opinion but not on the basis of factual presentation. Dr Brubaker goes out of his way to try and remain neutral whilst at the same time critiquing the oldest/earliest Quran texts. These texts surely are based on the so called oral tradition of the Quran, and the Islamic texts, especially the hadith reveal that many portions of the Quran were lost and it was written down especially after the Battle of Yammama and later on when disputes arose between Syrian and Iraq forces that were attacking Armenia. Uthman created a standardized text and destroyed the rest.Clearly oral recitation was not preserved not even then and these alterations confirm it. 22 of around 4 thousand that he has so far identified.1 star reviews I suggest are Muslims who have lived under the lie that they have a perfectly preserved Quran, even though their own hadith contradict this. My favourite is Aisha retelling the story of the sheep that ate 2 verses which are now lost, those on stoning adulterers, and the bizarre breast suckling of adult males verse. This book just confirms what the hadith (Bukhari, Muslim) tell us.

An important work of textual criticism of the Quran.
This is a scholarly book based on sound empirical foundations. The scholar and author has physically seen and photographed the oldest Quranic manuscripts. He has compared and studied these. Therefore, this is a work of textual criticism on the Qur'an. The Qur'an is clearly seen to be a text with human input and which has been edited and changed.
