Little Critter: A Green, Green Garden: A Springtime Book For Kids (My First I Can Read)

Another HIT!!!
My daughter is 2 and 1/2. Since she was one year-old Critter has been the be-all and end-all for her. She has at least 20 Little Critter Books by now. She has memorized the titles by site as well most of the words. She can actually "read" these books to herself from memory now; it's pretty amazing to watch. We credit Mercer Mayer and Litter Critter for keeping her interested with the wonderful illustrations and simple but relevant story lines. She adores these books and that has mushroomed into a love for all sorts of other books. Now the first words out of her mouth when she wakes in the morning are, "Gimme a book please". She starts and ends her days with books and it does our hearts good. This spring we put in a new raised-bed garden and also made a small one for our daughter to tend. She enjoyed reading this book in conjunction with planting and caring for her garden this summer. Mercer Mayer's books are wonderful on many levels but especially because our daughter can see so many of her own daily activities or things we do together (like heading to the garden center) in these books which makes them ring true and familiar for her. We just LOVE Mercer Mayer and can never say enough good about his legacy of books. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Great read for emerging readers
What a delightful Litter Critter book. Originally we found this at the library and enjoyed it so much we ended up buying it. Great Kindergarten read for an emergent reader. Many Kindergarten sight words are in this book such as: go, the, it, is, a, we, all, my, and, of, to, can, are, good, of, etc. Great pictures and we enjoy finding the spider and mouse in every illustration pictured.

Cute book to introduce gardening to young children
Currently one of my 2 year old's favorite books. It does a great job going through all the stages and aspects of having a family garden.

A very cute book about gardening!
I'm not a huge "little critter" fan but this particular book is very sweet and a good book for kiddos about gardening.

My daughter loves it.
My daughter loves plants, and planting. While her Grammy, my daughter and my mom planted some seeds and my mom sent us photos of the plants as the grew. This book helped reinforce what her and my mom did. Also, since she is learning to read, she was able to read about creating a garden. It is a great book for someone who is learning to read and who might like gardens or plants as well.

Green thumbs up!
Green garden takes a long, long time to grow! Critter is surprised to learn that in the end he has a garden of red, yellow and orange! Great chance for all critters to learn to grow their own food. As always the brave little mouse and spider appear on every page. Decades ago my own lil' critters loved finding the spider and mousey, long before they learned to read.
