If you were to have that uncommon accident like you spilled wine or something on it, then I would have it dry cleaned - but how often do those types of things really happen?? If it seems like got stinky, air it on a line outside for awhile. It won't hold the odor and you run the risk of damaging it with each wash. I have Scottish wool blankets, New Zealand wool blankets, Pendleton blankets, and now this one. It's not as thick as the Scottish blankets, but about the same texture, and bigger than those for roughly the same price. It's about as thick as the Pendleton blankets but stiffer, and not quite as soft. It costs roughly 1/5 of a Pendleton blanket. The only other wool blanket that I have that says it can be machine washed is the New Zealand wool blanket, but honestly the thought of machine washing it terrifies me, lol. Washing a large wool item just seems like a terrible idea, and why? It really shouldn't need it. I'm pleased with the price, quality, and weight of this blanket.
