My son started pre-k at the end of the last school year and all we could find locally were regular sized kids backpacks, which were far too big for him to carry. The color of this backpack is vibrant and the material does not feel like it'll rip easily. It's big enough to fit a standard sized folder or sheets of paper without bending. I usually put an outfit in there along with a few pull-ups, his water bottle, and his school folder. There isn't room for much more than that.I used a mini-iron to apply a 5" custom iron on patch, which doesn't get as hot as a traditional iron. I didn't have any issues with the plastic liner melting like others have, but with the lower heat of the mini iron the adhesive really didn't want to permanently stick to the material of the backpack. I had to sew the patch on there to get it secure. Based on my experience and others, that might be the best way to go if you're planning on customizing.It's very lightweight and it would also be great for adults to use on a short overnight trip or a day out with the kids when you don't want to tote around a huge diaper bag and purse. I just wanted a normal looking backpack that didn’t make me look like a 9 year old on his way to school. This bag fits the bill perfectly — it doesn’t look childish and it doesn’t look like a purse. The material does look a bit cheap (has a little shine to it) but the bag looks solidly built. I’m taking off one star because the zippers, as other reviewers have mentioned, are not great. They’re not terrible, but they feel a bit flimsy and I have a feeling I’ll need to replace them sooner than I’d like.
