Luckily I was in the house at the time, so I just changed to the other pair for the day, and my husband glued the sole back on for me. After having these boots for over a year now, I can safely say that I wear these boots folded over, and unfolded, with trousers, skirts, tights, leggings, in summer, as well as winter. I wear them with my vintage outfits, my witchy outfits, and my formal outfits. I wear them walking, driving, and on errands. I absolutely adore these boots, and I desperately want them in more colours and styles. They are thin and maleable, so perfect for layering thick socks and tights under in winter, or thin socks in summer. They look smart and I've had lots of complimentary comments from friends. The only slight problem was that when I first tried them on they were very very tight, just because the material needed loosening up, hubby pushed paper into them and worked his hand around the back which loosened it and now they fit perfectly, but I couldn't wear thick socks with them, so if you are planning on them for colder weather it might be wise to get a larger size to allow for this. I have worn them in rain and so far no problems with that.
