Long Lost album
I had this on vinyl when originally released and over the years like many people had replaced my best albums with the CD version. I understand the popularity of downloaded music but still like to have a physical copy. This album was transition to lead singer Phil Collins and I know many Genesis fand saw Peter Gabriel as the true lead singer and I agree with that however, Phil Collins does bring something new to the bands style.

ABACAB comes to life on this multichannel SACD. Amazing sound!
Just have to say that I have been a SACD fan for years. Love how in 5.1 (or multichannel) makes the mix alive. This is the first (and NOT the last) Genesis SACD I will be purchasing. These are not available here in the states. What they offer is DVD/CD reissues. DVD meaning Dolby Digital and DTS sound and NOT the higher 96/24 lossless audio that DVD-Audio can handle. These DVD (audio only) states they are 96/24, but are so flat and disappointing to listen to in surround sound since I am aware how awesome multichannel audio discs can sound. Have been wishing that somewhere these mixes from Genesis would appear on a higher resolution format than plain DVD (how embarrassing)can offer. After looking and reading reviews, I took the risk and bought Abacab on SACD/DVD.My God, how open and terrific this music sounds!! Genesis' music comes alive on this SACD in multichannel surround sound! I have never heard this recording sound so amazing. There is an air and atmosphere one must experience on the SACD layer. I am so excited that I just ordered the SACD/DVD box set (of their last recordings) and I cannot wait to hear how amazing these recordings are. Why are these SACDs not available to fans in the states? Why do we get crap and other countries get the best? This SACD of Abacab has become my favorite (out of the forty rock SACDs I own). Every track is rich in bass (finally) and fills every speaker with great music! I miss the SACD format and was sad to see it fade away so fast here in the states. I know I will cherish my library and make sure I keep a SACD player handy (my Oppo BDP-103 does an amazing job, along with region free blu ray playing).Once you experience Genesis on SACD, you will be quick to chunk your old CDs. You will never be able to listen once you heard them on SACD. My ears are smiling!!

ABACAB 2007 CD SOUND IS STUNNING
Well I finally got around to buying ABACAB on cd. Got 4 copies of the vinyl, yes all different colours.Originally from 1981 it was a perfect follow up to DUKE (my fave complete Genesis album after The Lamb). And yes I have their complete catalogue. Hence, 4 stars, although this cd is almost 5 stars.INFORMATION FROM INSIDE BACK COVER:Mixed 2006 by Nick Davis. Mixed at The Farm, Surrey. Remastered at Metropolis Mastering by Tony Cousins.I haven't played the album for a while, so I am working from memory (therefore, I may be mistaken) but the remixing only adds to the sound quality. The end of Who Dunnit? does seem different, more stereo and "confusing" (in a great way). The hi-end sound is crystal clear and the bass is warm and rich.Well worth the investment.A charming booklet with subtle cover style designs running through it, no picture but the song lyrics are clearly printed in a sensible size font. The cd in-lay tray is clear with the LP inner sleeve picture showing through.Just in case you don't know the songs, they are a mix of Rock, Pop and Prog. At the time (1981) Abacab was fresh and captured the spirit of the Pop/Rock scene nicely. It was also the time Phil Collins started his solo career with Face Value. A couple of songs on Abacab would fit perfectly well in the feel of Face Value.

Mostly good but...
I came to Genesis late in 1976 with Trick of the Tail ( which I loved) .I had my albums on cassette in those days so the transition to CD-minidisc ,ipod and streaming occurred over three decades.Because I was a late starter I missed out on Peter Gabriel's vocals for many years thinking that Phil Collins vocals on Seconds Out were the true versions of those earlier tracks and it took some years before the revelation occurred. So I missed out on the more subversive treatments of some of those earlier songs although of course Phil did a very good job. When Abacab came out I very much liked the title track,Dodo,Me and Sarah Jane and Lonely Man.Listening to the album now I have to say Whodunnit is probably the worst and most irritating track I can imagine them ever doing and brings the album down-certainly won't be on my playlists.Overall I liked this album but I suppose it marks a period when the distinction between Genesis and Phil Collin's solo tracks gets blurred.

So commercial.
I used to have this on cassette, so wanted to get the CD so that I could play it in the car. The sound quality is excellent, and there are some great tracks on this CD. Apart from the title track, there are some gems here. My particular favorites are No Reply At All, Keep It Dark, and Man On The Corner. To be honest, this is probably the last genesis album I like, as they seemed to become too commercial after this. That said, I do like listening to this in the car. It helps when stuck in traffic. Not the best Genesis album, but certainly worth listening to.. I am certainly glad I bought it.

GOOD ALBUM
I had been brought up in the era of Peter Gabriel with Genesis and after seeing Genesis on the Abacab tour I washed my hands of them. Many years later and listening to it again properly I realise there's some really good music on here. I still can't stand 'Who Dunnit?' and the last two tracks are fairly average but apart from that this is a really strong album.
