I have been using the Remington Ionizer for about six months, and I can tell you that this product works flawlessly to minimize chlorine usage while keeping your pool crystal clear. However, here are some helpful tips to consider before buying and for ongoing maintenance of your pool.1) Staining: As much as it would be great to just throw this ionizer in your pool and let the water balance itself, it doesn't necessarily work that way. You'll want to make sure that you keep the PH and Alkalinity balanced. With high PH and increased metals in your water, it can and will eventually cause some staining to your plaster (as others have mentioned). I experienced the same thing, so I started doing some research and found the following solution. Use a sequestering agent as part of your normal weekly maintenance routine. I use GLB Sequa-Sol, which binds the metals in the solution. This does not remove the metals which is a good thing because you want the copper in the pool. It just prevents the copper from settling on your plaster which is what causes the staining. This combined with maintaining a PH of 7.2 to 7.6 will help prevent staining. My chlorine usage is minimal. I have an automatic chlorinator and I keep it at a negligible level. I do not use pool shock at all.2) The Nylon Wing Nut: After using the ionizer for a couple weeks, I noticed that I couldn't screw the wing nut all the way into the anode, leaving the basket and screen that filters the copper debris an opening to escape into your water (which will stain your plaster). I've read several reviews about the wing nut breaking, which is likely due to over tightening in an attempt to get the filter basket flush with the ionizer. Simple fix here - just cut half of the threaded portion of the wing nut and problem solved. Screws right into the anode and you can fully tighten it to where the filter basket is flush with the ionizer.3) Cleaning the Anode: I would recommend cleaning the anode once a week as part of your maintenance routine. Wear gloves because the copper will stain your hands. I bought a box of 100 nitrile disposable gloves for this purpose. Also, don't clean the anode in your pool water, because it will cause copper particles to settle at the bottom of your pool and stain the plaster. Use a hose and the wire brush and scrub it until you see the copper is shiny again.Other than what I mentioned above, you can literally let it float in the water and do its thing. This is a nice product that works exceptionally well for those pool owners who don't want to use high levels of chlorine as a method of sanitization. I highly recommend this solar ionizer and have no regret using it in my new swimming pool. You won't be disappointed with the results and it saves a good amount of money in chlorine usage.

I purchased this a few months ago and was very skeptical about this product working, but I have been absolutely amazed at how well it works. My pool has be crystal clear and zero algae since using this product. I have not shocked my pool once since using it and have reduced my chlorine to one 3" tablet of week. Previously I was shocking each week and running about 4 chlorine tabs a week. This product seems very well made using quality material and no worries about it holding up over time. I do recommend you download the user manual for this product and follow it carefully because there is a chance you can over saturate your pool with copper ions and stain your pool. You can avoid this if you follow the instructions in the user manual. I noticed the download version has more information than the pamphlet that comes in the box. It gives information about how to cycle this product in and out of your pool to maintain healthy copper levels. I found what works best for me is to cycle it 1 week in and 1 week out of my pool to maintain best copper levels. The copper test strips will help you determine the cycle. Some pools may get away with leaving it in fulltime. Also, do not add any algaecides into your pool these algaecides add additional copper to your pool and run the risk of over saturation. I highly recommend this product...it will save you money from the high cost of Chlorine.

I took a chance on this due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I figured what did I have to lose. I live in south Florida and have a 10,000 gallon salt water pool. Before getting this device I had to scrub my walls at least once a week to remove algae and the steps where really bad. SINCE INSERTING THIS IN MY POOL SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I HAVE NOT HAD TO BRUSH ONCE!Thats right no more brushing at all! I have told everyone I know with a pool about this. It defies belief but it works miracles. Buy it now! PRO TIP, the copper anode needs cleaning every couple of weeks. Don’t scrub it with the brush. Buy their cleaning solution. It seems obscenely expensive for what it is and the quantity you get, however you only require two ounces and fill the rest of a container you can close with it. You can then keep the solution when you are done and reuse it.I have used the same solution for 4 months now and it still works great (at my current rate of consumption this container of cleaning solution will last me several years). You just drop the whole thing with the protective basket in the jar (I’m using a pickle jar works perfectly) and just let it sit overnight. Then just take it out and rinse it and you are good to go. This is by far the best investment I have made for my pool. It is an incredible value.UPDATE - April 2023. I have still not had to scrub my wall once! This thing is a miracle. I have also been able to reduce the chlorine levels in my pool to only 0.5 PPM and despite that it is crystal clear all the time! My pump broke and it took over a weeek to get the part that was needed. I knew my pool would trun green but there was nothing I could do about it, I would just need to clean it after, NOPE! This thing kept my pool clean and clear for over a week WITH NO PUMP RUNNING!! Why are you still reading this!? Go buy one now.

Really works well and am very happy with it. I just dip the spring part and the copper core into some white vinegar overnight and the crud comes off very easily. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is merely precautionary…because our cotton tops get green hair from it. Haha they dig the green hair though.

This really works well - only clean diode every 10 days or so. Definitely use less chlorine. BUT since I’m in Canada the company doesn’t ship replacement parts here. So have the hassle of making sure I find right parts. (The copper bar only lasts about one season).

Ya tengo un mes y medio de estarlo usando continuamente y el agua no ha vuelto a ponerse turbia.Ampliamente recomendado

We had looked into a copper rod type system in Brisbane, Australia to the tune of around $3KAUD. I was attracted to it because it was a low chemical solution. Our pool is above ground, chlorine-based (i.e. not salt) and around 20000 litres (not big). I am soooo happy we found this alternative. Price was super good and our water looks and is perfect. We put in one chlorine tablet every ~8 days and clean the copper rod around every two weeks - just getting to understand when is the sweet spot and we may be cleaning before it's really necessary so far (8 weeks in).I cannot sing its praises highly enough - and I seldom bother with a review unless it is uber negative - but this is a dream solution. There is no chemical feel in the pool at all, it is 100% clear and enticing looking, and the maintenance is totally tolerable. GO FOR IT!!!

moved into a house with a green pool and broken water return pipe, so difficult to repair, put the Remington Solar Chlorine-Free Sun Shock & Water Purifier in and within 3 weeks the algae started dying
