Weil re-presented
Among Simone Weil's writings, Waiting on God and Letter to a Priest are among the best-known and the most-loved; so why a new translation? The answer is that this new translation is a lot closer to the rather individual way she wrote, and brings out her own particular voice more clearly. It is a very plain and literal translation, the result of ten years work. For me, it shows how demanding Weil is, both in terms of the concentration one needs to follow her, and in terms of what she says faith demands. This is no easy version of Christian belief, but one that requires utter commitment on the part of the believer. It is also, however, a penetrating vision, one that goes to the very heart of belief.I came away with renewed and deepened respect for Weil's understanding and insight, and I thoroughly recommend this new translation.
