This glaze is for use on bisque fired pottery and must be fired in a kiln that goes to at least 2300 degrees Fahrenheit. If your clay is the right type and its fired properly it is completely food and oven safe. I hope that helps. **Q: the "product features" section above on this page say fire to cone 04 yet people are talking about cone 6...which is it?** A: You bisque fire to cone 04, apply the glaze and then fire to cone 5-6. **Q: It says apply to a cone 04 bisque, but then fire at cone 5/6? To clarify - the clay would have to be a cone 5-6 clay, fired to 04 (bisque phase)?** A: I use either a cone 5 or a cone 10 clay. No difference in the glaze effect. But the glaze kiln needs to be fired to cone 5-6. Apply the glaze in a very heavy coat for the reds to come through. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ good *by S***H on 14 December 2020* good ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Glaze that is great *by A***N on 25 July 2026* Love amaco glazes and this one has superb movement and color. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty glaze, but not a lot of red. *by S***N on 29 September 2024* Well, this is the first glaze I've ever bought from Amazon. I was lucky/blessed enough to not have it burst over the entire container during shipping, but it did leak from the bottle a little bit. I bought this mainly to try a brushing glaze that my local studio doesn't have and I'm not exactly displeased with it, but I wish I saw more red color that other people have gotten out of it. The way the glaze seems to behave on white/brown clay body is that most of the walls are going to be black and they will slowly become olive green/red on the way down towards the bottom. The bottom of everything I've glazed has been red, which means the glaze tends to pool at the bottom where you get that red color. I experienced quite a bit of blistering on both of these clay bodies, more so on the white, and I'm not sure if that's just due to the thicker application I went for on the glaze or if it's genuine clay/glaze disagreement. On a red clay body, that difference is that the black/olive green are more mottled and they give you more of a random look but it doesn't improve the looks of the red part of the glaze at all. The one piece I glazed is not quite out of the kiln, but I did peek at the results and I didn't immediately notice any blistering. I'd say if you love a mostly black glaze with hints of olive green and red, this is a good glaze for you. If you were wanting a more red effect out of it, you're not going to get it. I will say this is a very stable glaze, only running a little bit on bowls, but not too much.
