The .7 clamp infact can not works with the .5 lead because these is too smaller for it. **Q: is this very durable?** A: It is more durable than a pencil with a non-retractable lead sleeve (at the tip); however, the inner part where the barrel screws on to the rest of the body is plastic. For the money, you might be better off buying the Zebra M-701 Mechanical Pencil, 0.7mm (if you are specifically interested in the 0.7mm lead diameter).
