I never mixed 2 different colors because I have short hair and that would give me way too much dye to treat my hair. You might want to look for a "middle color" between dark and light Brown. Like number 47 or 46 as an example. I use 48 and it's pretty dark. **Q: How many boxes will I need for long thick hair?** A: This is the only hair dye I use. Just empty the powder into a bowl, use the plastic measuring cup for the correct amount of water, and stir with an application hairbrush for a minute. As it turns color and thickens, I have someone help apply it through my hair. Be careful not to get it on your skin as it stains quickly but will wash out over a couple of days. Color sets in fast within 20 minutes, and then rinse out. I use a colorfast shampoo to extend the life of the color. I like the fact it contains no ammonia-like some hair colors.
