Review: Helps my young 1/2 Arab/Warmblood focus and learn! - I have a young, hot 1/2 Arabian 1/2 warmblood who gets very excited and silly if not worked every day or goes to new places and when around horses he has not met yet. He is not spooky or frightened but more like an excitable dog that is excited to greet their owner when they get home from work or eager to go on a walk. It would be cute except he weighs 1200 lbs, hops like a bunny and sometimes rears. Have tried stud chains and knotted halters while walking him and that seems to make his reactions more explosive so just use his normal halter and do ground exercises to get his attention. If I’m riding him I’m able to bring him down with lots of transitions and tasks to get his mind back on me. Just because I’m willing to try anything once I thought I’d try Zylkene and see what it would do. He is kept at home and has a 12x24 stall with a 24x30 turn out and because I had a migraine I was not able to get him out two days in a row so thought I’d try the Zylkene. The day I was able to get him out I added the Zylkene to his morning bucket with a little bit of applesauce and he licked it clean. In about an hour or so I tacked him up and put on lunging gear expecting to have to expel his demons before riding and he was a perfect gentleman on the lunge. I hopped on and he was very workmanlike and did not put one hoof wrong. The following week I met my trainer at a different barn and gave him the Zylkene a little before trailering out and he was super upon arrival. He did let out a whinny and a few hops after exiting the trailer but was focused on his job and was super the rest of the lesson. My trainer and I were happily surprised (I did not tell her about the supplement because I wanted an unbiased opinion but she remarked about how well behaved he was). Hopefully in early September we’ll go to a clinic (if not canceled because of Covid) and will for sure give him Zylkene in his bucket beforehand so we are both in the best frame of mind to learn!!
Review: Set my horse up for a successful first show - My picky eater TB seemed to like it. He’s a large 6yo 18h TB so I gave him 2 packets three days before hauling him to our first show. He has been difficult to trailer and gets very anxious/ sweaty in the trailer. He also tends to rear with excessive energy and excitement and almost always rein chews and sticks his tongue out. I also gave ulcergard the day before and day of the show so take these results with that in mind. We trailered him to the same location the week before (no zylkene) and when I unloaded him and walked him around he felt on the verge of a blow up. I was extremely impressed with his behavior at the show under the influence of this. He was such a reasonable gentleman and I do feel like this helped take the edge off enough for him to be able to focus on me. He was a little “looky” but no extreme behavior reactions and I really felt like his brain was able to process things. We showed in only classes in hand and he tolerated kids running in grandstands, announcing, flags, minis with carts, mules and even a large teddy ear the ranch horse class used for a “drag” simulation in trail. After our in hand classes we went by ourselves to an empty arena for a ride and he was the best he’s ever been. No buck, no bolt. Looking back he was also way less mouthy and kept his tongue in most of the time. In general I would describe my horse at home as a gentle giant and with training we have worked a lot on relaxation exercises. So without these basic skills I’m not sure this supplement would be as effective. I do think this really helped and will use it again in the future. The only downside is cost especially with his dose being 2 packets but the benefit of a great first show experience is priceless. I love that this product can be used as needed and they don’t have to be fed it for extended periods of time. 100 percent recommend.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you use this just once for a stressful event, or do you have to use it several days in advance? I'm thinking just for a horse who is hard to load**
A: I think the product is intended for longer term use. I did not find it helped my horse who was having trouble adjusting to a new stable after a move. I finally just moved him somewhere else.

**Q: If it takes 3 days to become effective, How long do the effects last?**
A: Maybe a day or 2 after coming off of steady state dosing, depending on the root cause of your horse's anxiety, and stimuli in the environment.

**Q: How many pouches come in this?**
A: 20 pouches - depending on your horse's weight, you need 1 to 2 pouches per day. I don't remember exact cutoff, but I think it was 1 pouch up to 1,250 lbs, 2 pouches if over that. By the way, I was extremely pleased with the results!

**Q: Can you use this at an open/4h type show or would they test + for something?**
A: There are not usually any blood tests pulled at Open or 4H shows. Only approved higher level shows regularly test for drugs. With that being said, I do not know if the tryptophan will show up as a prohibited substance. You would do well to check with whichever governing body disapproving the show to see if there are any prohibitions.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works, but crazy expensive.
*by M***T on April 27, 2024*

I used Zylkene to calm my hot mare while she was on stall rest and rehabbing from an injury. It definitely works, but the cost prohibits long term use.
