Personalized--NOT Engraved--But Terrific Buy Nonetheless
I bought this on a whim for my bus-loving three-year-old son. He's super into cars of all shapes and varieties, but he goes gaga for public buses and school buses alike, so I thought he might enjoy this, especially since I could name it especially for him.First of all, this is a five star toy. It's a high quality die cast with an engaging and staggering array of interact parts for which my son went positively nuts. It's exactly as pictured, so it looks just like the school buses that go up and down the street. The stop sign comes out, the back door opens, and the front doors open using a little nubs under the bus to open and close (I wish those were a little easier to maneuver, but my son's little fingers manage them better than mine). Also, the bus is self-propelled when you pull it back to wind it up. It drives well, and it's a terrific size, much larger than Matchbox cars, probably around a foot long. The detail is delightful, down to the signage on the rear door. It's great for teaching my son how kids ride the bus, prepping him early for school. Why four stars then? It's simple. This is marketed as "engraved". Yeah, it's not. As you can see in the closeup, the paint on the bus is scraped back to form the letters. That's not engraving. Is it personalized? Sure, but not engraved. Personally, my son doesn't care and I sort of don't either, but if you're selling it as engraved, it should be engraved. That's the only part that feels "cheap." (Btw, my son's nickname is Mitter--we didn't name him something bizarre. Ha!)The bus, however, is a fair price, and my son takes it everywhere, so it's worth every cent I paid. I'm very happy with it. It is a product that will last.
