Identity Politics in George Lucas' Star Wars
V**R
Lots of Material Covered
An excellent and clever examination of the series. It covers the first two trilogies. It's very politically aware, considering Regan, the Cold War, and many influences of the time. There are also connections here to Rome and trends around the modern world. It's very heavy with secondary sources, especially in the feminism chapter. It considers the patriarchy's effect on the characters as they battle against it. There are many references to films of the time and now, emphasizing Star Wars as cultural commentary. An excellent way to put the series into context of history and pop culture.
