I bought a cheap one and after zeroing it the digital read out is probably 5% off the visible reading at say 100mm** A: Exstemly accurate, has been able to stop me using imperial bolts in metric holes. **Q: Does the vernier remember its position when turned off?** A: Yes it does, As long as you don't adjust it.... if you accidently move then it will show the measurement of the new reading, unless you zero it. **Q: is this good in a oily enviroment taking reading off oily sheet metal oily hands etc .** A: Can see no reason why not, normally would expect to take readings clean! ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great tool for engineers *by A***R on 3 January 2026* Really pleased with this purchase. Very happy with them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great little tool… *by O***Y on 23 February 2025* Well, on opening the cardboard sleeve and it’s blue plastic vacuum formed box you get to see it looking beautiful and shiny. There’s a couple of spare batteries, instruction manual, calliper tool and even a little screwdriver to be able to change the batteries with. The unit actually came with batteries in it which is great and providing a spare set is even better. I went for the slightly more expensive metal version as apposed to the cheaper plastic jawed one because I like to buy things that will hopefully last longer. Instruction manual is good, although it is pretty easy to understand, you can change the measuring unit via a little button, lock the device via a little top screw and it’s easy to operate the device for external, internal, depth measurements. Display was clear and easy to read and comes with off button to save its batteries. Instruction manual had a couple of mistakes in it, mentioned the locking screw was number 3 on the diagram and it’s actually number 2, (3 is the lcd display) and then also says to reset the unit by taking out the battery and it resets after 30 “secretary” which I presume should be “seconds” So it lost a star because of those mistakes, it’s the details that count.
