The piano has a two prong plug (i.e., it has no ground). It has a USB connection to the computer for MIDI and PCM audio streams. And it has line outs that I wanted to connect to my studio monitor speakers. The computer also has line outs to those studio monitors. That makes two paths to the computer Earth (house power) ground from the piano (USB and speaker line outs) forming a classic ground loop. The result was noise in the speakers. Isolating the ground on the USB connection eliminated the noise completely. This device is "plug and play".
