I place a cutting board beneath the unit to catch the cut potatoes. The bottom plate prevents the unit from pushing the potato through completely. Removing the plate solved the problem. Don't bother with the little washers. Also turn the unit so it stands vertically to screw on the wing nuts. Cleaning the unit is easy, so I don't disassemble with each use. **Q: Can I buy a 1/2" replacement blade assembly?
