I tried to replace it with the cheap stock switch from Home Depot, but it gave me a harder time than I should have trying to install it due to the expectation of how wires should just "slide in" to the slots in the plastic hub. So the new plastic pull chain hub that I bought from Home Depot broke and that's when I came across this awesome pre-wired hub. This was a super easy install and it took about 5 minutes to connect the wires (not counting the fan housing removal of course). I love that it included its own wire caps for safe install. NOTE: if your old color coded wires don't match the color coded wires on this hub, be sure to take a reference photo of your old wired hub (shown here) before disconnecting. Be sure to take a photo that shows which color wires go into the corresponding numbered slots on the plastic hub. This will save you a TON OF TIME! And then connect accordingly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Choose this design that has wires instead of slots. *by P***K on August 1, 2017* I have 5 ceiling fans. I never thought twice about using the chain to change speeds until one day the chain pulled clean off one of them. Found out the only way to fix was to take the fan completely apart to get to the fan switch, snip all the connecting wires, strip them and make sure that the wires are correctly connected (hard enough if the part had it's own wires. I bought this as a backup for the next fan that this happens to. The fan switch i used did not have wires, just tiny slots for the wires to 'push in' so the wire ends have to be flattened solid by soldering.
