I am renting and looking for a temporary fix for the countertops.** A: I've been covering kitchen counters with contact paper for years. It's cheap and make a fast, big difference in the looks of the kitchen (and bathroom formica counters). It comes off easily if you use a hair dryer to warm up the stuff (i.e. blow it back and forth along the top of the paper). It'll come up. I'm assuming that you're covering old formica counter-tops, right? If there's any sticky residue after removing the contact paper, use Soft-Scrub with water and a scrubby-sponge to get off the residue. If Soft-Scrub doesn't work --it should -- but if it doesn't, use Goo-Gone -- which is, btw, one of mankind's greatest inventions for removing all kinds of gunk. Contact paper is great for a quick cheap make-over. With reasonable care, it'll last a long time, but if you use it on the kitchen counter, you MUST use a cutting board when slicing stuff. Oh, and when putting it down, make sure surface you're putting it down on is bone-dry, or it won't stick. For the inevitable air-bubbles that show after you first put it down, stick a pin (straight pin, safety pin, whatever) in the air-bubble, and gently press the contact paper down, squeezing out the air. Take your time, be patient. Figure on spending a couple of hours doing the job, depending on size of the kitchen. Oh, and don't butt the seams. Instead, overlay by about 1/8th of an inch. Contrary to other opinions, it does NOT get nasty and dingy with use, assuming that you are reasonably tidy and prompt about wiping up spills. **Q: would it be ok to use this on the back of my laptop???** A: I've only used it on Formica countertops but it peels off without any damage or sticky residue. **Q: Will this damage walls? I am looking for an inexpensive solution for a small laundry room, but don't want possible wall damage.** A: when you say wall damage, i assume when you remove it.it depends on the material of the wall (sheet rock, mdf board, concrete, etc.), and what's already on the wall. if the wall has been painted, there's a good chance of not having a wall damage when removed. if the wall has wallpaper, the wallpaper might come-off when you remove this film.try it in a small/hidden portion of the wall as a test. **Q: anyone use this on a macbook?** A: Yeah i did it looks great! ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Simply Marbleous! *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 28 August 2020* The tiles in our bathroom had a 90's swirly gold border which was looking tired and outdated. I decided to try this as a temp measure to compliment the marbled counter tops & give an instant tile upgrade, as the main body of plain grey tiles were still in great condition so didn't need removing. I thought no loss in trying this. The vinyl is quite thick and easy to cut with sharp scissors. There are lines on the back to help measuring/cutting. I cut each piece to fit over the border section, leaving a gap between the tiles where the grout is, to give a more 'realistic' effect. Super easy to apply (just make sure your surface is dry). If you need to during the initial application you can take off and reattach if you need to straighten up etc. I used a plastic loyalty card to help ease out any airbubbles. I've found once stuck in situ it stays there, doesn't slip. Being in a bathroom I was keen to see how it faired when wet, so far so good! One note of caution, if using over something dark (such as a dark tile or patterny surface) you may be able to see this faintly through the vinyl. I like this product, I like the light grey marble design, I like the myriad of ideas it could be used for, I also like the price, excellent value for the quality and quantity (£5 when I purchased). Easy to apply and lift if you need to reposition it. I used a store card to push out airbubbles. Wouldn't stick to the underside of overhang despite using cleaning alcohol before hand so had to get my glue gun out!
