When we buy a new one, we will ensure it has a removable bowl. **Q: Why does my fryer smell when in use** A: I no longer have this fryer. However, it is a coarse mesh and only takes out larger fragments, so you still get the gunge in the bottom of the bowl. What it has done, is make me filter the oil before using the fryer every time, which I didn't do before. The bowl is easy to clean, being round, but is not removable for washing. Basket, filter and lid can be dishwashed. Cooking results are good and the thermostat is effective, but you cannot raise and lower the basket with the lid closed.
