A: Steel mesh, just like the picture. Its a nice product, lightweight and comfortable.

**Q: Are the straps long enough to fit over a safety helmet?**
A: This item does not appear to be designed to fit with a separate safety helmet over the top. You need to buy a safety helmet with a built on visor instead. This is far face protection only as far as I can tell from using it

**Q: Does it need to attach to a helmet or do you wear it as it is?**
A: it is a stand alone item, just stick it on and tighten the wheel at the back.  No need for anything else.  

If you want to wear a helmet as well you'll have to get a different bit of kit as you can't wear this and a helmet.

No instructions but application of little common sense and I worked out how to attach the visor. Good protection and reasonably comfortable to wear although not easy to wear headphones a the same time which is disappointing given the need sometimes to muffle the noise from garden equipment. Overall, good value for money and strongly recommended to protect your eyes and face if you are using any equipment that might throw something back in that direction.
