Made in Vermont with lead-free, non-toxic ingredients, this 16oz jar offers consistent, food-safe results ideal for professional and hobbyist potters alike. Backed by a lifetime warranty and supporting ceramics education, it’s the smart, sustainable choice for your next masterpiece. ## Description This matte black glaze fires to a soft, low-sheen surface with dense, even coverage over stoneware and ceramics. It's a versatile neutral for mid-fire studio work, equally at home as a solid field of color or as a base layer for testing effects with other Matte Series glazes. Brush on directly from the jar for smooth application, or mix the dry form to your preferred consistency. Fire to Cone 5-6 in a calibrated kiln for reliable, consistent results. ## Features - COLOR PROFILE - Matte Black features a deep, charcoal-black surface with a smooth, non-reflective finish. The matte finish provides a smooth velvety appearance. Color is consistent, giving a clean and modern look. - CONE 5–6 MID-FIRE - Formulated for mid-fire kilns at cone 5 and cone 6 (about 2167–2232°F). Always fire in a calibrated pottery kiln, never a kitchen oven, so your results match the swatch. - MATTE, OPAQUE FINISH - Fires to a soft, low-sheen matte surface with solid, even color that fully covers the clay body underneath. - READY TO BRUSH & BLEND - Ready to brush straight from the jar. Blend with colors in the same series to make new glaze colors, or layer it with other glazes for new effects. - ART MATERIAL - Conforms to ASTM D-4236 art materials standard. Suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food or drink when fired to the specified cone on the product label. Crazing, pinholing or blistering makes a surface unsuitable; test your own clay and firing. - CONSCIENTIOUSLY MANUFACTURED - At Penguin Pottery, our core values are simple: manufacture responsibly in the USA, craft exceptional products, and support the pottery community by donating 1% of our sales to school programs, community centers, and disaster relief for artists. - LIFETIME WARRANTY - Penguin Pottery products are backed by our Lifetime Warranty. If you have any issues, we will give you a refund or replace your product. See warranty & support section for more information. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B09XRCY7TJ | | Country of Origin | USA | | Item Dimensions LxWxH | 8.9 x 8.9 x 9.5 Centimeters | | Item Weight | 771 g | | Item model number | PP-GZ-MH-285 | | Manufacturer | Penguin Pottery | | Net Quantity | 16.0 Fluid Ounces | ## Images ![Ceramic Glaze - Mid-Fire Cone 5 & 6 - Matte Black - 16 oz | 473 ml - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71ji6Nnh+cL.jpg) ![Ceramic Glaze - Mid-Fire Cone 5 & 6 - Matte Black - 16 oz | 473 ml - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41RxiI9r80L.jpg) ![Ceramic Glaze - Mid-Fire Cone 5 & 6 - Matte Black - 16 oz | 473 ml - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41Qc67xC3-L.jpg) ![Ceramic Glaze - Mid-Fire Cone 5 & 6 - Matte Black - 16 oz | 473 ml - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51c7qJF0lOL.jpg) ![Ceramic Glaze - Mid-Fire Cone 5 & 6 - Matte Black - 16 oz | 473 ml - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/414ylLrJXGL.jpg) ## Frequently Bought Together - Penguin Pottery - Matte Series - Matte Black - Mid Fire Glaze, High Fire Glaze, Cone 5-6 for Mid Fire Clay, High Fire Clay - Ceramic Glaze Pottery (1 Pint | 16 oz | 473 ml) - Penguin Pottery - Specialty Series - Floating Blue - Mid Fire Glaze, High Fire Glaze, Cone 5-6 for Mid Fire Clay, High Fire Clay - Ceramic Glaze Pottery (1 Pint | 16 oz | 473 ml) - Penguin Pottery - Celadon Series - Candy Apple Red - Mid Fire Glaze, High Fire Glaze, Cone 5-6 for Mid Fire Clay, High Fire Clay - Ceramic Glaze Pottery (1 Pint | 16 oz | 473 ml) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.ro/products/483881032-ceramic-glaze-mid-fire-cone-5-and-6-matte-black](https://www.desertcart.ro/products/483881032-ceramic-glaze-mid-fire-cone-5-and-6-matte-black) --- *Product available on Desertcart Romania* *Store origin: RO* *Last updated: 2026-10-22*
