Major album from the early Stones
The Rolling Stones' 4th UK album and the first to see the group write everything with no covers present. Those R&B hallmarks are still present and correct, although the sound palate has been widened particularly under the influence of Brian Jones with dulcimer, sitar, and harpsichord adding new textures to the backing. At over 50 minutes long this was an album that stretched the abilities of the vinyl format. Indeed "Going Home" clocking in at over 10 minutes is one of the longest pop or rock tracks of the 60's, allowing the group to stretch out. There are plenty of big Stones tracks on this beautifully remastered album - "Mother's Little Helper", "Lady Jane", "Under My Thumb", "Out Of Time", and "What To Do" are all well-known. The rest of the album whilst not as well-known (except to Stones afficianados) is of equal measure. This is the sound of the Stones becoming more confident both with their own musical and writing abilities, and having time to experiment in a Hollywood studio rather than putting things together in a rush or piecemeal as dictated by early 60's standards. A major early Stones album.

Best
The Stones at their best. Brian Jones period giving them their most interesting style and sounds.

what a drag it is getting old!!
bought this album in the 60's - LP in the States whilst serving in the RN - and haven't heard it for over 30 years - might have the vinyl in the loft somewhere - liked the Going home track - played it endlessly in the messdeck whilst on a nine month deployment - played it again a week back - awesome - over 12 minutes long - didn't remember it being that long! never heard that particular track ever on the radio! highly recommended to purchase - excellent value - classic Stones stuff

My husband is a big collector of Rolling stone, and didn't have this on CD, as it is one of there early LP's.

BACK TO BEING NAUGHTY TWELVE. STILL AFTER THIS LONG.
Deliciously wild young and punchily frank about itself. To all us iconoclasts, this is the sound you want by you a lot of the time. You drug-takers will still find sympathy with it. But if you're a rulebreaker for all the right reasons, like I am, in contrast, you'll be synchronised and encouraged by it. Do get to love "Going Home" on it, and Jagger will gild your empathy, and by the fade-out, there'll be no excuses.

Vibrant and Compelling ...
This is a fascinating album after all the R&B stuff the Stones were renowned for. It shows how sorely missed Brian Jones was when he up and died. However the Stones writing skills were not quite up to Beatles' standards yet the songs were well crafted. This album is vital for understanding the musical growth of the Rolling Stones

My mate had it - and I didn't
Way back when (late 60s) one of my best friends had this album. At the time - I was more of a Beatles fan than a Stones fan. Amazing how times change. I picked up on The Stones after Beggars Banquet and have built a moderately full collection since. BUT - this was an essnetial part of any Stones collection that I was missing - until now. ☺ ♫ ☺ ♫

Phenomenal Sound/Re-Matsering job
I'm a big fan of vinyl but the sound quality of this album (and also Between the Buttons) on CD is absolutely tremendous!Running through my tube set up, it almost sounds as if the band is in the room with me! All the instruments sound extremely life-like.Highly recommended!
