The sanding heads ensure good access to small spaces but as the sanding pads are very fine they do tend to wear quite quickly. You can always make up some coarser ones with some double sided tape and sandpaper. I use mine for sanding small models so can't comment about ornate furniture. You will also need a Proxxon power supply as Proxxon use a strange 3 pin plug, or have to wire it up to a suitable power supply. **Q: could this be used on plastic?** A: Hi, if you are talking model kits then yes. I have also used it on polycarbonate and acrylic. For fine work only though, this is a precision model tool. I think it’s a superb tool for its intended use. I found out about the sander from reading a blog on a modelers site and after some research found I could order it from Amazon, which I did, along with the power supply. I've found it to be a most useful tool to finish off those awkward to reach places on models.
