She gives instructions for both cuff down socks and toe up socks. Same with brim up and top down hats. I think you can probably be as detailed as you want using her formulas or just use the basics like yardage guides for various sizes of cowls and figuring beginning chain lengths. There is also a small but very nice stitch dictionary. Her patterns are minimalist looking and quite lovely in the stitch patterns she used. I hope she goes on to write other formula books for items like triangle shawls, tank tops, cardigans etc. Highly recommended if you are wanting to design your own patterns.
