You can switch the bean grinder off. **Q: Ive never had a coffee machine but im looking for one that uses beans rather than the capsules is this easy enough to use ?** A: Yes. Very easy to use. Just be sure to set the grinder to 12 cups - no matter how many you are making or it will not grind the beans properly. If you leave it plugged in you do not have to set the timer each time.
