The substrate appears to be steel, about 1.5x the thickness of a credit card, with the finishing surface diamond-impregnated. **Q: Has anybody tried cutting these in half....to potentially double your usage time?.otherwise, i find the middle doesnt get used, just the edges. They do wear out though. **Q: Is there any abrasive on the card edges?** A: Just had a look at mine--nope, no abrasive on the edge--the cards are really thin, so I don't there really could be, anyway. **Q: Can the cards be modified in any way? Like cutting down to size or drilling holes through them to attach to a lanyard or camping bag?** A: They are just metal cards with an adhesive matrix that diamond chips are embedded into. I use to sharpen my wood turning chisels. I don’t always need to use my grinder so having these in my back pocket is a bonus. They are not cheap but hopefully they will last a long time.
