## Description

desertcart.co.uk Review Long recognised as role-playing games par excellence, the Final Fantasy series gets a technological makeover in this instalment. Shedding the two-dimensional graphics and limited sound capabilities of its predecessors, Final Fantasy VII features lush 3-D graphics, beautifully animated "movie" sequences, and soundtrack-quality music. Coupled with the game's intricate storyline, endearing characters, and an immense yet highly imaginative world, these new advancements make for a quite an engrossing experience. The story of Final Fantasy VII centres around a solider named Cloud Strife, who joins forces with Avalanche, a group of resistance fighters, to take down an evil mega-corporation known as Shinra. (The fate of the world hangs in the balance, of course.) Truly epic in scope, this three-disc game requires a considerable amount of time to complete---this reviewer gladly gave up over 80 hours of his life to finish it. But it's definitely a rewarding adventure that every gamer should consider undertaking, especially since it's now one of the low-priced "Greatest Hits" titles. --Joe Hon, desertcart.comPros:Intricate and absorbing storyline with endearing characters Immense and highly imaginative game world Special battle system Beautifully animated movie sequences Cons: Your friends and family may feel neglected Manufacturer's Description In Final Fantasy VII you'll explore a beautiful fantasy world that is slowly succumbing to the iron-fist rule of the ruthless Shinra, Inc conglomerate. Operating from Midgar, the neon-drenched city built on a giant elevated plate to separate it from the poverty-stricken slums, the evil corporation uses giant Mako Reactors to gain power by draining the life force from the land, thus giving it a stranglehold over the planet's natural resources. A number of rebel groups form to destroy this sinister force, the most powerful of which is a group of experienced fighters known as Avalanche. Each member of the team shares a common bond in that they have all been personally affected by Shinra's misdeeds and seek vengeance to reclaim their dignity. Their newest member is Cloud Strife, a former Shinra soldier who could be the key to victory for the rebels. So begins a grand adventure that will change the world forever. The first Final Fantasy title for PSone is an unmitigated classic, a truly epic title that spans three CDs of finely crafted storytelling and deep RPG action. With a huge world to explore, hundreds of characters to interact with and a myriad of sub-games and side quests, Final Fantasy VII will tax your mind, your reflexes and even your heart. It's a truly unforgettable experience.

Review: Best game - Why did you choose this product over others?: Such a classic game - still think this is and FF8 is the best game ever made
Review: Timeless storytelling - Final Fantasy VII is now some fourteen years old, and yet it is one of the few titles from the 1990s that I go back to again and again, drawn back always by the fabulous story and characters, not to mention classic JRPG gameplay and awe inspiring attention to detail. For me, few games have the ability to last more than a few years before they start to lose their charm and begin to look and feel dated - none more so than Final Fantasy XII from 2006, which is already ugly and blurry, not to mention self indulgent and annoying. In short, the great majority of games do not age well, and the Final Fantasy series has suffered from declining standards as well. Since FFX Square/Square Enix seem to have produced increasingly poor console games, with FFXIII being the latest case in point. FFVII, however, was released at a time when Square were on a roll, producing brilliant games almost annually. Emotion in a video game can be a toe curling experience at the best of times (Ryo screaming "Noooooo!" in a famous sequence from Shenmue being a prime example in an otherwise brilliant game), but here it is dealt with wonderfully thanks to genuinely likeable characters, brilliant music, and perhaps the greatest video game story ever told. These days, a game without vocal dialogue would be almost unimaginable in a big console or PC title, but it really isn't missed in FFVII: the story unfolds via text dialogue, and it works very, very well. Console games from the 1990s that I can still fully enjoy are few and far between - Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evils 1, 2 and 3, Silent Hill and one or two others. Final fantasy VII, however, has neither become clunky nor graphically dubious with the passage of time. It is still as bright, vibrant and amazing as it was when it was first released. It's an all time classic which anyone picking it up today can still enjoy on many levels.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 16 years old and still the best.
*by J***O on 17 March 2013*

Andrisang, CEO Yoichi Wada explained during the company's annual shareholder meeting that it would not remake the legendary RPG until it makes a brand new Final Fantasy game that "exceeds the quality" of Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix has not made another game as good as FF7, their words. Put aside the 16 bit graphics for a second and what you have is the complete package. The game features so much with very few parts repeated, unlike most new games that seem to thrive on it. Ranging from combat to breeding racing birds to snowboarding to submarines. In some cases the mini games have more about them than some games recently released featuring, oh I don't know, famous extraterrestrials perhaps? But the main aspect for me is the story. It starts very slow, with a seemingly simple task of blowing up some reactors for an eco group. Then suddenly all goes wrong and the story begins to kick in. This won't happen just once though and you'll develop an understanding of each of the characters warming and then cooling to each one over and over again. Be warned though, this is not a run and gun complete in a few hours game. You will loose your life playing this and after months of enjoying the twists and plot changes you'll complete it, put your controller down and wonder what the hell you'll do with yourself now. Yes the graphics are poor but this was released in 1997. I hope one day Square Enix do make a game that exceeds the quality of FF7 and then goes and makes a remake, but then FF7 is what it is, would it be the same with boosted graphics, more so will they add voice actors? I think if that happens it would not be the same as this bridges the gap between reading a book and immersing your life with that of the words and watching your actions shape the destiny of events. I guess time will tell but either way this is the grandfather that all games aspire to, some may have exceeded it with modern technology but on the level playing field, granddad will run ring around any game, old or new.
