Legendary filmmaker George A. Romero returns to unleash another chapter in his zombie series! In this new tale of terror, Romero creates a harrowing vision of a modern-day world where the walking dead roam a vast uninhabited wasteland and the living try to lead "normal", lives behind the high walls of a fortified city. A new society has been built by a hand of ruthless opportunists, who live in luxury in the towers of a skyscraper, high above the less fortunate citizens who must eke out a hard life on the streets below. With the survival of the city at stake, a group of mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from the evolving army of the dead waiting outside the city walls. Land Of The Dead features a cast of great actors including Dennis Hopper, Simon Baker, Asia Argento, Robert Joy and John Leguizamo.

Better Than Expected
I didn't anticipate a movie being made so many years after the originals would be good but I enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for zombie movies anyway and I love that this takes place in Pittsburgh. Worth watching and owning!

Scream Factory's collector's edition blu-ray of "Land of the Dead" is superb
George A. Romero's 2005 film "Land of the Dead" was first released on blu-ray back in 2008 which was early in the format's existence. While a solid release at the time, Universal put the unrated director's cut of the film on a single layer disc with a low bit rate which topped out around 18 mbps. There was also some digital noise reduction (DNR) applied which robbed the film of detail and gave everything a bit too smooth of an appearance. In addition to the visual imperfections, a few extras from the DVD release had been inexplicably dropped as well.Flash forward about 9 years and the fine people at Scream Factory have given "Land of the Dead" the 2 disc collector's edition treatment. This is what all is contained in this release:DISC ONE: R rated theatrical Cut- NEW 2K Scan Of The Interpositive- NEW Cholo’s Reckoning - An Interview With Actor John Leguizamo- NEW Charlie’s Story – An Interview With Actor Robert Joy- NEW The Pillsbury Factor – An Interview With Actor Pedro Miguel Arce- NEW Four Of The Apocalypse – An Interview With Actors Eugene Clark, Jennifer Baxter, Boyd Banks, And Jasmin Geljo- Dream Of The Dead: The Director’s Cut With Optional Commentary By Director Roy Frumkes- Deleted Footage From Dream Of The Dead- Deleted Scenes- Theatrical TrailerDISC TWO: Unrated director's cut- NEW 2K Scan Of The Interpositive With HD Inserts- NEW Audio Commentary With Zombie Performers Matt Blazi, Glena Chao, Michael Felsher, And Rob Mayr- Audio Commentary With Writer/Director George A. Romero, Producer Peter Grunwald, And Editor Michael Doherty- Undead Again: The Making Of Land Of The Dead- Bringing The Dead To Life- Scenes Of Carnage- Zombie Effects: From Green Screen To Finished Scene- Scream Test – CGI Test- Bringing The Storyboards To Life-A Day With The Living Dead Hosted By John Leguizamo-When Shaun Met GeorgeI compared the picture quality of the Scream Factory release to the old Universal disc and there really is no comparison. The biggest improvements are that the bit rate in the Scream Factory release is doubled than the Universal transfer and all of the DNR slathered on the Universal disc has been removed too on Scream Factory's transfer. Some review sites claim that there is not much of a discernible improvement visually on Scream Factory's release but a direct comparison such as what I did shows noticeable improvements in all areas. This is the definitive release of an underrated film. As for the HD inserts used in the unrated cut on disc 2, nothing jumped out at me as being odd looking and those inserts for the additional scenes and gore shots seamlessly blend in.While I usually frown on having to double dip on blu-ray releases of movies, this is one case where it is well worth getting Scream Factory's edition. The visual upgrade in addition to the copius amount of new extra content including all previous special features and both cuts of the film make this release truly definitive.

My third favorite of Romero's 'Dead' series
My favorite is Dawn of the Dead.My second favorite is a tie between the original Night of the Living Dead and the 1990 remake. But this one is also damn good and a truly worthy entry in the series.Sadly, it's also the last worthwhile entry in the series. The first one was a fun horror movie. The second was a fun socio-political commentary on consumerism. This one provides socio-political commentary on capitalism, class division, and how the rich exploit the working class. All of them are a commentary on humanity. How humans are often more monstrous than the rest of the actual monsters. If you want fun action, thrills and gore.... This won't disappoint.Fun performances from John Leguizamo and Dennis Hopper are a treat as well.Enjoy

One of my favorite zombie flicks
The collector's edition comes with the R-rated theatrical version and the unrated version. I personally prefer the unrated disc because it has scenes that added more to the movie. Happy to get my hands on this one though!

Fantastic version of a great film
I've seen most of the George Romero films. "Night Of The Living Dead" will always hold the #1 spot for many reasons, but for my tastes, "Land Of The Dead" comes in at #2. It has an amazing cast, a solid story, and the visuals are stunning. I've seen this on the streaming services a number of times and also own the DVD. So I asked myself "Do I need this Blu Ray version," and the answer is YES. I didn't do any side-by-side comparisons but can tell you that this is a beautiful transfer, sharp and clean and the colors will knock your eyes out. Sound is great as well. I have a Roku TV with a soundbar, a good setup, but not a "home theater" by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm willing to bet that if you DO own a high-end system, you'll be very pleased with this. It's a 2-disc set with the Theatrical and Unrated versions, and quite a few extras. The main attraction will always be the film itself and I've never seen this one look so good. If you're sitting on the fence about buying this, don't...it's well worth the money.

"George A. Romero's Greatest Zombie Apocalypse Film Ever Made!"
This would be my top #3 George A. Romero film he ever made. The top #1 would be Night Of The Living Dead and #2 would be Day Of The Dead. But anyway this has great actors and actress I know. There's plenty of gore scenes I enjoy watching. Simon Baker and Robert Joy are great duos. Great performances and roles by Simon Baker, Robert Joy, Dennis Hopper (R.I.P.), John Leguizamo & Asia Argento. And the great lead zombie was also great. I recommend this to all George A. Romero fans.

Ehh movie but great presentation from scream factory.
The rating is for the scream factory collectors edition presentation of this late Romero dead film. I'd give the movie itself maybe 3 stars? It's just okay...not awful....not great. But this release is pretty extensive. Looks great and packs pretty much all the bonus features you would ever care to see.
