Solid option but with changes needed
First, this feels solid in your hand. Not like a knockoff BMG clone or something. This is not a direct replacement so know that going in. Order the correct motor with it as the standard ender type stepper motors won't work. I only have this set up in a Bowden configuration at the moment but with it's small form factor and printable mount options, it would be a killer direct drive candidate. It comes with good hardware and well packaged. I like the tension screw as it is billet aluminum I'm guessing and not cheap plastic. The biggest negative I have with it is that the thumb wheel is so far recessed that my fat thumbs can't reach it at all, therefore all movement of filament must be done with the tension knob and arm. One issue I have run into is that if I torque that screw down too much, it binds the motor. True, all extruders do this but I feel that this one is VERY sensitive. Changes to mounting and possibly wiring is necessary for this extruder to work. Also your E-steps will need to be adjusted. Over all I think it's solid and when it's tuned right it's a beast.I'll update as needed. If no update, assume it's still rocking and rolling!

Great little extruder for the price!
I've been running this in Bowden tube configuration for several weeks on my ender 3, and its been great. No issues at all. I used it to print the parts for the direct drive configuration (downloaded the models from github as per the instructions in "about this item" section). The stepper motor that I bought and am using with is is the "AITIAO 36mm Motor Extruder Stepper Motor Round Body 3D Printer Parts with 47.2inch Cable Compatible with Orbiter Extruder Sherpa Extruder, Ender 3 Pro/Voron 2.4 / BLV / CR10 3D Printer." The stepper came in with reversed wires and I just had to pop them out on the connector and switch them around. I'm very looking forward to trying direct drive as the whole extruder/motor combo is very light - last time I was direct drive my setup was so heavy that I was afraid of the extra wear, if not just quality issues.. oh, yeah, don't forget to use a 3:1 ratio when calibrating esteps as the extruder as that gear ratio...

Bought for a future project
Update: There is now a direct drive mount on printables with the herome gen 7.4 page. If you go to the herome page and search hgt extruderSeems cool, bought for a future project.came with a lot of hardware for install which is great.I'm not a cad designer and the fact this has zero presence across all 3d print stl sites is kind of a huge bummer. The github has things for the ender but only if you want bowden or wheel mount. Nothing for linear rail. Hope this item gets more notice soon. Very lightweight

Perfect for klipper
Compared to a pocketwatch extruder from Voron this is perfect for a voron 0.2 I figured I'd share my Klipper config as it's not super documented.[extruder]rotation_distance: 21.621gear_ratio: 50:17microsteps: 16full_steps_per_rotation: 200nozzle_diameter: 0.400filament_diameter: 1.750pressure_advance: 0.036pressure_advance_smooth_time: 0.08

Works very well
Used this to replace the stock extruder which cracked on my ender 3. It appears to be working very well.
