Anki Cozmo, A Fun, Educational Toy Robot for Kids

IMHO as technology grows most startups or tech companies have forgotten about customer service. Cosmo and Anki are truly the exception to this opinion. Let me tell you about our experience with Cozmo, my kiddo received hers from Santa last month. From the time she pulled him out of his box, she was in love with the mini-robot. This little thing is cute even before you turn him on. Charge him up, connect him to your device and fun begins. The ease of setup is remarkable. The games, tricks and cool features would be enough to say this a great toy, but his expressions and personality are what put him over the top. My we're in love with this toy.Today, one of the three cubes stopped working. I had already purchased extra batteries for the cubes. I changed out the battery and nothing happened. I went through the online troubleshooting steps and still noting. My next step was to contact customer support from the website and submit a ticket. After hitting submit I noticed a phone number for support. I immediately thought how quaint they have a phone number for people to call and get stuck in an endless phone maze of press #2 if.. or stay on the line for another 40 minutes and be hung up on. Feeling adventurous I though what the heck and I called the number. Mind you, it's a Sunday afternoon, no chance they would actually answer. Second ring, the computer voice picked up, I pressed #2 for Cozmo support and 15 seconds later a real human picked up. Within 4 minutes she determined we needed a new cube and sent me an email. Name, address, amazon invoice and just like that a new one is on the way. All in, 10 minutes from online ticket to a resolution. I'm in absolute shock right now. A customer service system that really works. Bravo Anki!

Cozmo is a lot of fun. The genius of Cozmo is bringing a "cartoon" character into the real world. By combining a cute little 'bot with an infinitely expressive but simple video screen, you've got a droid right out of a Star Wars movie, running around your desk, playing games, interacting with its cubes, and exploring the world on its own. And that's just the start. Once Cozmo runs through his bag of tricks, you can take control over its functions, and program it (OK I want to say "him" since Cozmo exhibits all the personality of a rambunctious 8 year old boy. Why did I not say girl? It's interesting that this little 'bot will ultimately be perceived in the male gender. Only because it exhibits behaviors that one would still associate with, at this point in history, "boys". I only bring this up to exhibit how much personality this 'bot has, and how easy it is to "bond" with it as an identifiable character). Getting back to programming. There are many levels of programming you can invoke on Cozmo. The simplest is stringing together pictograph blocks that will make the 'bot perform the indicated actions. The second level of programing is stringing together fuction blocks where you can change the variables to perform the different actions, animations, drives, speech, video display, etc. Third level is the SDK, which allows high-level programming Python to take full control over Cozmo.The one problem I had with Cozmo was that it kept disconnecting when I used my Kindle Fire 5 as the controller. This was very frustrating as the 'bot would just die out in the middle of play. It would have been nice to have the larger screen to play on, but it just wasn't happening. Switching over to my iPhone 6S to control Cozmo seems to have solved this blip, and I haven't had a problem using this method.In conclusion, Cozmo will become your tiny fun friend. In addition to that, the learning possibilities through the programming functions are endless. After playing with the simpler programming tools, I intend to learn the higher level programming functions as a way to introduce myself to the programing world.

Purchased for myself. Really well designed and very emotive, Cozmo even snores when going to sleep. Comes with cubes which allow him to stack and move around as well as play games. Intelligent electronics, will learn as you play more with him and there is the option to free code.Very quick to charge and the app is easy to download and use. Has the ability to be remotely controlled and facial and object recognition. The object recognition seems to work pretty well and he can recognize faces in that he is looking at a person, but it sometimes takes him a minute to actually recognize me.Although he may not look it, he is relatively durable. He will recognize if there is a ledge that he might fall over, but the system to move him away from the ledge does not work well. Instead of backing up a decent amount to turn around, he only backs up a bit and makes a small turn. Eventually, he falls of anyways which is mildly hilarious.A really nice price for such an intelligent robot.

When I bought Cozmo for my 11 year-old daughter, she played with it nonstop for two days. Now he sits in the corner on his side. When I ask her why she doesn't play with Cozmo anymore, she shrugs and says he's kind of boring. When guests come over, though, she'll set him up and show him off. People laugh when Cozmo recognizes their face and says their name out loud. But then a few minutes later he's tossed back in the corner to chill for a few more months. Bottom line: it's a toy. He's well built with lots of features and games, and for the price, you're really getting a lot of great technology. But he's a toy.

Excelente juguete, tiene sus complicaciones al principio; como que debes de tener un equipo que sea compatible con la app ya que de otra forma no lo puedes encender ademas de que debe de estar conectado a la toma de corriente, pero una vez que realizas los procedimientos a seguir para que encienda las siguientes veces se vuelven muy fácil conectarlo. Es muy entretenido y tiene muchas posibilidades de juego, te entretienes con facilidad existen algunos pequeños tutoriales donde te enseña cómo puedes interactuar con él lo que te ayuda a facilitar su uso y tambien puedes meter a la página de Anki por si tienes más dudas relacionadas con su funcionamiento. Lo recomiendo para edades de más de 9 años ya que algunas piezas que lo componen parecen algo frágiles y como es mi caso no creo que sea facil conseguir repuestos. Se nos pasa muy rápido el tiempo al jugar con el, le encanto mucho a mi hija es un juguete muy bueno otra opción de entretenimiento con el cual pueden estar los niños jugando por horas. Saludos.
