Renowned for its distinctive arched covers and side vents, it delivers the authentic blues sound that has defined harmonica music for over a century. Suitable for both traditional and modern playing styles, this iconic instrument is a must-have for serious musicians seeking timeless quality and tone. ## Description Product Description The Hohner Marine Band can trace its origins right back to the end of the 19th century. The registration of the Marine Band patent in 1896 laid the foundations for an unparalleled success story. The original design of the Hohner Marine Band is still central to the construction of this hugely popular instrument today. The arched covers with side vents give the Hohner Marine Band an unmistakeable sound which is inseparably bound up with blues music and has ensured its enormous popularity with both professional musicians and amateur players alike. The Hohner Marine Band, named after the 19th century military marine band headed up by John Philip Sousa, retains many of the features found in the very first instruments that Hohner produced under the Marine Band brandname. Some of these features include the pearwood comb and brass reed plates that combine to produce a uniquely authentic sound which has defined the role of the harmonica in the blues tradition and made it the benchmark from which all others are judged. The Hohner Marine Band represents the archetypal blues harmonica with traditional Hohner Richter tuning. Richter harmonicas are single note instruments and can be recognized by their undivided channel openings which allow the airflow to pass over both blow and draw reeds simultaneously. This permits the techniques such as bending, enabling the player to lower the pitch of certain notes and create the typical bluesy wailing sound , and overblowing, which produces the missing chromatic notes. Safety Warning Clean with a dry, soft cloth ## Features - Hohner's most famous diatonic harmonica - Wooden comb/body - Stainless Steel cover plates - Hand made in Germany - Suitable for both traditional and modern styles ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B0002D00IC | | Best Sellers Rank | 67,233 in Musical Instruments & DJ ( See Top 100 in Musical Instruments & DJ ) 555 in Harmonicas (Musical Instruments & DJ) | | Brand Name | Hohner | | Colour | Chrome | | Customer Reviews | 4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars (332) | | Finish Type | Polished | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00400912600143 | | Hand Orientation | ambidextrous | | Instrument Key | D | | Item Dimensions | 10.2 x 2.5 x 2.5 centimetres | | Item Weight | 0.13 Grams | | Manufacturer | Hohner | | Manufacturer Part Number | Marine Band | | Material Type | Stainless Steel | | Model Name | 1896 Marine Band | | Model Number | 1896 | | Number of Items | 1 | | Style | Traditional,Military,Modern | | Unit Count | 1 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Hohner - **Colour:** Chrome - **Instrument key:** D - **Material:** Stainless Steel - **Style:** Traditional,Military,Modern ## Images ![Hohner 1896 Marine Band in D, Chrome - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51yjPJ+1RpL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Pattern** options. --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.ro/products/51673598-hohner-1896-marine-band-in-d-chrome](https://www.desertcart.ro/products/51673598-hohner-1896-marine-band-in-d-chrome) --- *Product available on Desertcart Romania* *Store origin: RO* *Last updated: 2026-10-04*
