The serving portion is 3 1/4 inches wide. **Q: Do the Cuisinart cooking utensils get scratched easily? They look very nice brand new, but how nice do they look a couple years down the road?** A: I've only had set of utensils for 9 mos. They still look like shiny and new unless you take a real close look for scratches. It's probably because I have them rubbing against other cooking utensils in the drawer. But the scratches are pretty light. **Q: Would this spoon hold up stirring something really thick or heavy without bending?** A: Yes, you shouldn't have any trouble stirring really thick or heavy creams/soups. This spoon is made of thicker metal and one solid piece. **Q: The description says it's stainless steel, however I received the order and no where on the product does it say it's stainless steel. is it really?** A: Regarding magnetic properties determining whether something is stainless steel - it's not that simple. Some types of stainless steel are magnetic, while others are not. From my research: "A basic stainless steel has a 'ferritic' structure and is magnetic. ... However, the most common stainless steels are 'austenitic' - these have a higher chromium content and nickel is also added. It is the nickel which modifies the physical structure of the steel and makes it non-magnetic."
