[Well, yeah, I guess those wooden ones can; but you have to reload those yourself.] No, this is like the other games in the EXIT series, but in an Advent Calendar format. It's made of... well, I was going to say cardboard, but it's more like really thick card stock. It has 24 doors like most Advent Calendars do. Behind each door you will find a "room", complete with artwork on all sides plus ceiling & floor. More than likely you will find a Riddle Card (or a few) behind each door, but sometimes there are other items, and sometimes nothing at all. It comes with a story book that guides you along the way. It is comparable to the story books that come in the Level 2 exit games (the ones where you're not supposed to turn the page until explicitly told to do so), except it is divided into 26 sections... a prologue that sets the scene, 24 days of story/clues, and an epilogue that wraps up the adventure when you've successfully finished. There is also a Hint Book to help you along if you get stuck. Sad to admit it, but my wife and I had to use it a couple times during play. The decoder is ingenious... unlike the regular EXIT games where it is possible to enter an incorrect code but still get credit for it, I don't think there's any way that can happen with the Advent Calendar. Yes, these are expensive considering there's no chocolates or other goodies. However, think about it. In a normal EXIT game you have to solve 10 puzzles (the 10 symbols on the decoder disc, though I concede that some of them have multiple parts to them). Here you have 24 puzzles to solve, so over twice as many. Another reason they're so expensive is because each one has to be individually hand packed before it can be shipped. Only you can decide how you want to spend your money, so I can't really tell you if it's "worth it" or not; but that said, my wife and I have played both the first one (Mystery of the Ice Cave) and this one (The Hunt for the Golden Book), and I fully intend to purchase The Silent Storm for us this year (2023), too. So for me, at least, it's worth it. **Q: Is this game to be sent the 2021 edition or the 2022 edition?** A: This one was from last year but it’s not 2021 specific. It has days but no specific year so you could play it this year without issue. It’s a really great game! **Q: About how long does it take each day? Are these puzzles like 5 minutes each? 15? 30?** A: 5-10 minutes, though you may also need a flashlight and a magnifying glass. And scissors. You will definitely need scissors. **Q: Is this fun for adults?** A: Absolutely. I’ve played every Exit game out there and they’re all great. This calendar is no exception. Every day you unlock a new puzzle to work on. Cannot fault it. You solve a clue to open the next door each day. Each day has a little part of a Christmas-themed story to read before opening the door. Behind each door is a little room with some cards or other clues. The clues involve the room or the cards or the box or any other materials. The calendar is really well made and the clues are fun and imaginative. Some are easier than others but they are all of appropriate level where they don't take too long but are enough to make you think. We have just finished day 18, and so far we had 2 days where we didn't quite get the whole clue and had to look at the cheat book, which gives you 2 hints then a solution. When you solve the riddle it gives you 2 solutions so that you can double check you've solved it correctly. It's a great excuse to find a few minutes to get together even if we've all had busy days and are home late. We've done maybe 20 of the Kosmos EXIT games and when I saw this it just stood out as a perfect gift for them. Puzzles are really well balanced, taking between 10-20 mins each day, so enough to be interesting and worthwhile but short enough so you don't overload as you do one every single day. A very different advent calendar, gets the whole family involved and great fun. You get to do a puzzle a day which is great. The only 2 drawbacks are that you destroy the box as you go so you can't regift them, and there's not a big prize at the end.
