A 5 year life, according to the instructions, after which it's chucked away (responsibly).I assume replacements are available? The instructions don't say.My earlier jug just had two small inset clicky wheels - one for the day and the other for the month, so it was a simple matter to set the predicted expiration date for the cartridge especially as that would vary depending on use.No batteries needed and no disposal precautions. It never went wrong even once. ;)I'm a little suspicious of the button's claimed prediction abilities for the cartridge lifetime, since it's a sealed plastic button making no contact with anything.
