It needs to be the consistency of cake batter. My first batch was wetter and I was worried it wouldn't set but it set very well. The second batch was more like the batter. It was my first time grouting and I didn't realize how much time you get to wipe it off. The packaging says to wait 15-30mins before wiping off and that's about right. For a batter-consistency, 20mins is fine.
