If you don't like the child proof, take a small knife and pry underneath and pull out the back (of the child proof device) first then remove the front of it near the flame. Use caution when doing this and keep your thumb on top of the child proof device. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye **Q: will the butane evaporate? if i buy this with intention of saving 60 bucks over 3-4 years would it work?** A: I believe the butane would only evaporate if you stored it in a hot place where it would cause the lighters to leak. I've had mine for over a year and still have plenty left to use.
