Ist es Punk? Ist es Rock? Wohl eher etwas dazwischen, was The Sainte Catherines aus Montreal auf ihrem sechsten Album "Fire Works" veröffentlichen. Die Stimme von Sänger und Text-Schreiber Hugo Mudie klingt auf jeden Fall so, wie sich ein Punk-Sänger laut Klischee anhören muss. Versoffen, verraucht, kaputt. Und stereotypisch geht's weiter: Denn die Songs sind 08/15-Punkrocksongs, wie sie junge Menschen zu Tausenden in Kellerräumen proben und dann auf Jugendfreizeiten vor 30 Leuten aufführen. Warum "Fire Works" dann trotzdem eine kleine Empfehlung verdient? Bestimmt nicht wegen der Texte. Darin geht es, wieder ein Klischee, um all die Dinge, über die eine "echte" Punkband eben so singen muss: Keine Freunde, Probleme mit den Frauen, Identitätssuche. Doch The Sainte Catherines gelingt es irgendwie zu überzeugen. Denn zwischendurch, da gibt es auch die etwas ruhigeren Momente. Punk-Rock in Moll, und in "Back to the Basement That I Love" ist sogar eine Mundharmonika zu hören, da wird aus dem Punk-Rock Punk-Folk. Und das ist doch mal was anderes...
