Great story
Betty Neels was a wonderful author of romantic fiction, and this particular story is a very good example of her books. Just an honest to goodness enjoyable romantic tale with no explicit parts, as one tends to find in some books. She should be an inspiration to new young budding authors. So sad that she is no longer with us.

With Betty's books you sometimes get a travelogue of different countries which I like. My only regret is that she never got into doing epilogues. I really like epilogues

She Got the Fairy Tale
This is a lovely fairy tale where Cordelia leaves her life of drudgery behind and sets off to make her way in the world. She takes a temporary job as a governess to a very spoiled twelve year old who is on her way to stay with her crusty old Uncle Charles in Vienna. Charles, who isn't really that old, eventually realizes the plain but charismatic Cordelia owns his heart. Before he can tell her, his spoiled and jealous sister sends Cordelia away. Throughout the book, Ms. Neels describes a beautiful Vienna I would certainly love to visit. She is also a very cunning writer. Often bits and pieces of her secondary characters are most interesting than the fairytale. Sal and her husband Henry, who caters to her every whim (P.C. for spineless), had been off in the far wilds of South America for a year. Apparently, it was somewhere that had excellent mail, telephone and concierge service, but no obvious mode of transportation to an airport to allow Sal to visit her only child at least once during all that time. After observing the solid relationship between Eileen and Cordelia, Sal allowed everyone to believe Cordelia was going to stay with them, at least until Eileen returned to school. Out of the blue, the morning after they arrived back in England, and against her spineless husband's wishes Sal sends Cordelia away then lies to Eileen about the reason. Not only was Henry spineless, he was cheap. He turned Cordelia out with her current salary owed and one week's wages. I am sure if there was an epilogue, Sal and Henry would have received a pretty good set down from Charles, his mother and Eileen.

Good Read
Always makes you smile. Good story as always. Look forward to other stories. Love it when the heroine is someone in need of care and love.

Lovely story
One of Neels' great tales based on Cinderella. Only this Cinderella is plain faced with beautiful eyes. Feminists would deplore Neels and her assumption that women need husbands to make their lives complete, but her heroines are always either plain with beautiful eyes or abundant hair, or beautiful but indifferent to the fact. The moral being that every woman is beautiful in some way or other and each deserves her Prince Charming.

Lovely, sweet romance.
I love all the old fashioned sweet romances by Betty Neels. I read them all many years ago and am now reading them for the 2nd and even 3rd times on my Kindle. She wrote them all on a formula. Usually a romance between a Dutch doctor or professor and an English young lady. There is always some type of conflict that has to be settled before the happily ever after. No violence and no sexual content.
