Because my water heater has not been drained since it was installed in June 2024, I elected to follow the 'drain instructions' vs just flushing it. I used an air compressor set at 45 psi and injected air many times during the draining process...worked well and was easy. I monitored the sediment by having the water heater drain through and old screen, and surprisingly, there was not much sediment. Living in San Antonio, we have hard water so I expected more.
