If the 14 year old users a computer and Ableton or Fl Studio to compose music, then I think this would be a wonderful thing to get them. **Q: Can Launchpad s be used like a drum machine and make beats that playback?** A: Yes but you'll need a script like launchpad95. It works on ableton but I'm not sure if the script is just ableton. **Q: Stupid question, but: does it have a speaker? or a way to use it without a computer? i wanna bring this to a friends house.** A: You need to use it with a computer.
