My old mp3 players are NOT bluetooth, and this is one of the only speakers out there that will both play AND protect my mp3. It doesn't take much juice - the 3 AA batteries lasted weeks, even at full volume. I'm giving it 4 stars because the battery compartment cover clip is weak and the cover started falling off about 6 mo ago, allowing the batteries to dislodge with normal usage. I tested it for water tightness, and it was fine - but you have to be careful not to get the cord to the 3.5mm jack caught in the seal or it will leak.
