## Overview

The Zoo Med BettaMatic Automatic Daily Betta Feeder is designed for the modern pet owner, providing a hassle-free feeding solution for your Betta fish. It operates on a single AA battery (included) and automatically dispenses food once a day, ensuring your fish is well-fed even when you're busy. Plus, it comes with a sample of food to get you started!

## Description

This easy to use feeder will allow you to feed your Betta fish while you are away, or use it to feed your fish daily at a pre-set regular time. Automatically feeds your Betta once daily. Can be used to feed your Betta while you are away, or use to feed your Betta at a regularly scheduled time each day. Mount directly to side of tank, or use enclosed rail kit for round bowls and other tanks. TREOUBLE SHOOTING STEPS: In order to adjust the amount of food that comes through the ball there is a funnel in the middle that scoops up the food. The funnel can be turned to let more or less food through. Have them play around with it to get the desired amount of pellets to come through. If the black dial is not turned fully sometimes the ball will not turn.

Review: Worked fine for me, perfect if you feed your betta once/day - I was away for 10 days for an international trip and the BettaMatic must have worked -- my fish was healthy when I returned yesterday. I have 5 gal Fluval tank and did not see any excess pellets in or around the tank. The water appeared clear. I did not use the battery that came with it after reading reviews, and tested the feeder for just a day before I left. Position the feeder so that the spout has enough room from the edge of the tank because I did notice that pellets may not drop into the tank if the spout was sitting too close to the corner... at least that was what I noticed when testing the feeder using a mug cup...the pellets were all over the place but it is because the cup was not wide enough to receive the falling pellets. Since I didn't have much time to try I just used the pellets that came with the feeder, not the usual food I use (Aqueon Betta Food). They were a tad bigger but it wasn't an issue I guess. I feed my betta once a day, about 6 pellets so this feeder was the best for me (I did not get the best selling automatic feeder on desertcart because I was afraid it would dispense too many pellets at once)
Review: Doesn't work - When I really needed this thing to work it stopped. Thank goodness I used the 7 day Betta food feeder by Topfin from PetSmart. I left my place for exactly 7 days and I wasn't 100% confident that the Bettamatic would work and it didn't. First of all, the food that it comes with (Microfloating Betta Pellets by Zoo Med) doesn't fit the Bettamatic. The pellets are too big for the fish feeder so "if" it would work it would maybe feed 1 pellet/day. That's crazy so I used Color Enhancing Betta Food by Aqueon which is smaller and it works better. Second, it works better with non filtered tanks. So, if you have a fish bowl or just a gallon tank with no filter at all than you won't have any problems, however if you have a filtered 1-3 gallon tank like I do than you'll have problems. Somehow condensation entered the Bettamatic and it completely stopped working. The pellets stuck to the sides and it stopped rotating. The main thing I don't like about this fish feeder is the amount of food it feeds your Betta. It's like playing roulette, you seriously don't know how much it feeds your fish. The few times I noticed it feed my Betta I noticed that it feeds to the side. Thankfully the pellets didn't go far enough to fly out my tank but for bowls or tanks with narrow openings would be a problem. I don't trust this thing at all to feed my Betta while I'm away. The Betta Food Feeders from petsmart works way better and that's what saved my Betta while I was away.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it work better if it’s filled to the max? Or will it work just as good with 1/4 teaspoon of pellets?**
A: Not sure but I filled it 1/4 of the way and several pellets came out at once. The manufacturer said the amount can be adjusted but not so. At least I never found a way and I followed their directions. If you have a betta this would be way too much food for them.

**Q: Does it work withBetta flakes?**
A: Does not work with flakes

**Q: Does this work for dried bloodworms?**
A: not sure, never tried it with dried bloodworms. The opening is small so if the bloodworms clump together or can get stuck, then I would say its better not to use it with the feeder. Its designed for little round pellets

**Q: Where can i buy the food?**
A: Petco

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ My fish is still alive which is the entire point
*by H***A on March 24, 2016*

I've waited to make this review in order to make sure it actually did its job which was to keep my fish alive. And, success! For specifics: because of the varying reviews, I ordered this well before my vacation because I wanted to test that it actually dispersed the food on a daily basis and to see how many pellets would be dispersed. What I found is that it dropped food about 90% of the time and dropped around 3-4 pellets at a time. This was using the included food packets. I have my own pellets which are slightly smaller and so I tested that next. Because of the smaller size, it dropped many more pellets, around 5-6. This is too much food for a Betta. That was one of my concerns so I moved back to the larger pellets. We were going to be gone for 2 weeks and the little ball is big enough to hold well above that amount. With some trepidation, we left on vacation. And I was thrilled to return to find a happily swimming little fish. I have continued to use the automatic feeder because it drops at the same time every day and keeps things consistent. However, I'm not a huge fan of the provided food. It tends to cause constipation after several days (identified by an enlarged belly which can throw off the fish's balance). So in order to avoid this, I remove the feeder for 1-2 days about once every week or so. I actually read from some other Betta parents that this is good to do anyway. One other small complaint is the plastic food ball is pretty fragile. Be extremely careful with the little latches on the sides of the ball - they are very thin plastic. Also, the place where the ball attaches to the motor already has a fine crack in it and I've only used it for a couple months. It does not impact functionality but is a point of annoyance. If you are wondering how it works, I would describe it as similar to a travel alarm clock. It's battery operated on a 24-hour cycle. The feeding time depends on when and in what portion you attach the ball. It's not hard to figure out how to adjust the time once you've watched it work. Overall, this thing can't be beat for the price. It did its job and is still working fine.
