The other pair is 14 years old and despite much abuse, mud, neglect are still usable even with a lot of wear and tear. This level of boot will provide good service, decent protection, and are great entry level, modest use, or as a second pair of backup boots. If you are racing or need extra levels of protection then something with more features and design protection further up the line (cost) might be better suited. But if you want a good basic boot for modest enduro, trail riding, and general off-road, that will give you long solid service the Tech 3s are hard to beat.
