## Description

This Valterra 6301 gate valve has 3" female slip connection openings, and a white PVC (polyvinyl chloride) body and hubs for resistance to corrosion and mild chemicals. Its shaft is made of 304 stainless steel and its paddle is made of polypropylene for resistance to corrosion and chemicals. Its seals are made of thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) for dimensional stability and resistance to chemicals. It has a maximum pressure rating of 30 pounds per square inch (psi), a mid-flow maximum pressure rating of 0.5 psi, and a maximum temperature rating of 167 degrees F (75 degrees C). This gate valve measures 13 x 4.375 x 4.5 inches/324 x 111 x 133mm (H x W x D) in a fully open position. (H is height, the vertical distance from bottom to top; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) It is suitable for use with landscape and irrigation, pool and spa, aquaculture, and general purpose applications.Gate valves control flow in a piping system by lifting a gate out of the path of steam, fluids, or gases. They are designed to block or permit flow, as the vibrations and force of flow repeatedly striking a partly lowered gate can damage the gate and seats. To accommodate different flows and pressure requirements, gates come in four types: solid wedge (appropriate for almost all liquid service), flexible wedge (appropriate for steam service), split wedge (appropriate for normal temperature, non-condensing gas and liquid service, including corrosive service), and parallel disc (appropriate for high and low pressure applications). Hand wheels or levers activate the screw mechanism in the valve’s bonnet, which comes in various designs, to open and close the gate. Most gate valves have either a rising stem, which moves up and down with the gate, or a non-rising stem, which remains fixed in place. When closed, the gate and its seats form tight planar sealing surfaces, ideal for linear liquid flow. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Should it come with a plunger clip?  Mine did not and I'm worried that the plunger is going to fall down as it doesn't take much pressure.**
A: No it does not. The plungers are fairly snug and I've never had a problem with it but then I'm using these valves as an exhaust valves for my laser engravers rather than a shut off valve for plumbing and they work great for my use. I don't know what type of application you're using these for but I believe these are generally used as a drain shut off valve for waste water & sewage tanks used in travel trailers and motor homes. Don't know if that helps you with your question but that's about the best answer I can come up with.

**Q: Is this product suitable for use in sewer drain piping**
A: Yes, I believe it would work fine in a low pressure use.  I bought it for a speedy dry hopper on a fire truck, does not work as well as expected.

**Q: Does valve have to be mounted in a vertical position?  Will it work if the gate is mounted horizonaly? or 30 degrees off vertical?**
A: Mine is mounted horizontally and working fine

**Q: Will the handle shaft unscrew so i can connect my 6 foot cross rv handle shaft?  i have a 98 itasca winnebago.**
A: Yes, the handle on the Valterra 6301 valve does unscrew.

This 3" gate valve (and it's bigger brother the 4") are hard to find for a reasonable price. I needed one to to act as a shut-off for my sump pump pit (basin). It constantly fills up with water so I need to turn off the radon fan so I can pump the water out during the winter. With this valve, I used a 3in Fernco to connect to the PVC pipe. Now it's EZ-PZ to shut it off temporarily. Note: this will fit standard Schedule 40 PVC. Some installers will use THIN wall PVC -- this will not fit unless you use a coupler. The 3in couple I purchased off Amazon as well: NDS 3P05 PVC S&D Coupling (B00HXHAN78). The coupler will fit snuggly into the valve. I primed & glued the couplers.
