It gives the coffee a clean taste where as the paper ones are let's the coffee grounds sit too long. Coffee can sometimes taste to acidic, muddy, and bitter. The construction of the filter is well made, great quality. It's smooth, no rough edges and the rubber rim at the top makes it easy to remove from the Chemex. It does sit slightly below the rim of the Chemex but I had no problem remove it. My husband has giant fingers and not issues there. The copper finish is beautiful.
