Mostarda is a culinary specialty of northern Italy, consisting of preserved fruits such as figs, cherries, pears, lemons and peaches candied in a sugary syrup strongly flavored with mustard oil. This mostarda, made with delicious plums, has a sweet-sharp flavor that makes it ideal for serving as a relish with cold and hot meats, such as zampone (stuffed pig's trotter), boiled beef tongue and bollito misto (a mixture of boiled chicken, ham, sausage and beef).
