## Description

A Frequency Dictionary of Spanish has been fully revised and updated, including over 500 new entries, making it an invaluable resource for students of Spanish. Based on a new web-based corpus containing more than 2 billion words collected from 21 Spanish-speaking countries, the second edition of A Frequency Dictionary of Spanish provides the most expansive and up-to-date guidelines on Spanish vocabulary. Each entry is accompanied with an illustrative example and full English translation. The Dictionary provides a rich resource for language teaching and curriculum design, while former CD content is now available to access at www.routledge.com/9781138686540 as support material to provide the full text in a tab-delimited format ideally suited for use by corpus and computational linguistics. With entries arranged both by frequency and alphabetically, A Frequency Dictionary of Spanish enables students of all levels to get the most out of their study of vocabulary in an engaging and efficient way.

Review: Almost Perfect! - As my title says, this frequency dictionary is almost perfect. Let me get the only flaw out of the way first: there are a bunch of typos. Some words are misspelled and there are other cases where incorrect words are used in sentences. However, I’m still 100% satisfied with it and gave it 5 stars. It has a 5000 word frequency list based based on recent sources that include fiction, non-fiction, blogs, internet, and spoken sources such as news and media. The sources are from Mexico, Spain, and dozens of other countries. Each entry has a corresponding English word, part of speech, and example sentence in Spanish (with English translation). It also, when applicable, tells you if the word is part of a common phrase or idiom. If the word is an Usted form, it notes that. The font is very readable and clean. Definitely a new design. The cover has a very smooth, unique texture. Overall it has a well-designed feel when you hold it. Some other features that need to be noted: 1) It has a nice preface which explains the goal and methodology of this frequency dictionary, 2) scattered throughout the book are theme-based word boxes such as “foods” or “body parts”, 3) towards back of book it further lists ALL words in the dictionary by part of speech (noun etc) and also alphabetically. Any beginner to intermediate Spanish student or learner MUST get this. Don’t waste time studying words you’ll never see. If you can learn the first 1000 words in this book, you’ve learned 85% of the language. Just learn grammar, immerse yourself in Spanish with real speakers, and you’ll be set. Buena suerte a todos!
Review: Great companion text as I attempt to teach myself Spanish. - I cannot say enough good things about this text. I purchased the digital version and am extremely pleased with the content and price. It is very simple and straightforward once you get beyond the introductory information regarding where there new compilation of frequency data comes from (I read parts and it is impressive. I appreciate their use of more social media and news sites as this will hopefully make the list more relevant for a new speaker). The example sentences with translations (a new addition to this edition I believe) are a great bonus. I am using it as a work book and attempting to translate the sentences and looking up words I don't know before looking at the solution. Very challenging, but on average I'm learning 1-3 words per sentence. I didn't get a free copy or get paid for my review. I am just finding every tool I can to help me learn to speak Espanol in 2 years and this is now part of my arsenal! Great job writer/editor/publisher! Many thanks!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good resource for any level student of Spanish
*by R***D on January 11, 2024*

I have been learning Spanish for over six years now, and this dictionary seems to be very helpful. It’s organized by the FREQUENCY of words, more basic and common words at the front, more abstract and obscure ones at the back. It is good to test my level of fluency and actually see how many of the words I recognize and to help grow your vocabulary
